A 27-year-old sailor from Ralston died while serving on the USS Enterprise in the Arabian Sea.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Micah Aaron Hill died Tuesday as the result of a noncombat incident, the Department of Defense said.
Hill was assigned to the Enterprise as a machinist's mate. The Atlantic Fleet Public Affairs office said Wednesday it had no other information about Hill's death.
Hill enlisted in the Navy in June 2004. After graduating recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill., he attended naval Submarine School in Groton, Connecticut. He later served on the ballistic submarine West virginia and the carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower. In November 2009, he reported to the Enterprise.
“Micah was a patriot,” said Pastor Hank Teague, one of the leaders of the Monumental United Methodist Church in Portsmouth, Va., where Hill and his family worshipped for several years.“He loved his kids, he loved his wife and he loved his country. He was quiet and fun to be around. I feel privileged to have known him.”
Hill lived with his wife Melissa and their three young boys near the naval base in Norfolk, Va., where the aircraft carrier is based, Teague said.
“He was a good softball player, I can tell you that,” he added. “He was quiet and fun to be around. I feel privileged to have known him.”
Teague said he had no details on how Hill died. News organizations in Norfolk said the Navy was investigating the circumstances of Hill's death and that officials declined to say where on the ship he was found.
Navy Machinist’s Mate 3rd Class Micah Aaron Hill was killed in a non-combat related incident on 4/19/11.
