Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Lew

Remember Our Heroes

Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Lew, 21, of Santa Clara, Calif.

LCpl Lew was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, III Marine Expeditionary Force, Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii; died April 3, 2011 in Helmand province, Afghanistan, while supporting combat operations.

L-Cpl. Lew joined the Marines in August 2009 and reported to his unit in February 2010. He deployed to the Middle East in November 2010.His unit had joined a Marine combat team for counterinsurgency work with the Afghan National Security Forces, provided security to locals and promoted development in the region.

Friends will honor him by doing something he loved: "tricking", an alternative sport that involves kicks, flips and twists. Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Lew's wide circle of buddies will perform the combination of wushu, Chinese martial arts and gymnastics Wednesday at his alma mater, Santa Clara High School.

"Harry always livened up our sessions," said friend JayR deGuzman, 21, of Santa Clara, who helped to organize the tricking session at 2:30 p.m. on the football field of the high school. "His best trick was the butterfly twist." where you spin 360 degrees in a horizontal flip.

Marine Lance Cpl. Harry Lew was killed in action on 4/3/11.
