Army Spc. Jonathan D. A. Emard

Army Spc. Jonathan D. A. Emard, 20, of Mesquite, Texas

Spc. Emard was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, N.Y.; died June 4, 2008 in Tikrit, Iraq, of wounds sustained in Sharqat, Iraq, when his unit was attacked by enemy forces using small-arms fire and hand grenades. Also killed were Sgt. Shane P. Duffy and Sgt. Cody R. Legg.

Fort Drum, New York -- Spc. Jonathan D. Emard, an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, was killed June 4 when his unit was engaged by enemy forces with small arms fire and hand grenades while assaulting a building near Hawijah, Iraq.

Spc. Jonathan D. Emard, 20, entered the Army in March 2006 and completed basic and advanced individual training at Fort Benning, Ga.

A native of Mesquite, Texas, Emard was assigned to Fort Drum in July 2006.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

He is survived by his parents.

Army Spc. Jonathan D. A. Emard was killed in action on 6/04/08.
