RICHMOND, Va. — The Department of Defense says a soldier from Virginia has died in Iraq.
Spc. Christopher McCarthy of Virginia Beach died June 1 at Forward Operating Base Ramadi. A U.S. Joint Forces Command spokesman says the 28-year-old’s death was non-combat-related and is under investigation.
McCarthy was assigned to the Joint Forces Command, Joint Reserve Unit based in Norfolk. He was a member of Task Force Ramadi, a 100-member, all-volunteer, joint military force deployed in February for a six-month tour but capable of remaining longer.
