Army Spc. Matthew T. Morris, 23, of Cedar Park, Texas

Spc. Morris was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Hood, Texas; died April 6, 2008 in Balad, Iraq, when his vehicle encountered an improvised explosive device. Also killed was Capt. Ulises Burgos-Cruz.

KXAN -- AUSTIN, Texas (KXAN) -- A Texas soldier from Cedar Park has died in Iraq.

Matthew T. Morris, 23, was killed Sunday in Balad, Iraq, when his vehicle hit a makeshift bomb. Captain Ulises Burgos-Cruz, 29, of Puerto Rico, also died in the blast.

Morris was a Cedar Park High School graduate assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment out of Fort Hood, Texas.

He was the oldest of four children and the son of a Vietnam veteran. The family said they are planning his funeral for early next week, and Morris will be buried in Killeen.

Army Spc. Matthew T. Morris was killed in action on 4/6/08.
