Army Sgt. David J. Hart, 22, of Lake View Terrace, Calif.
Sgt. Hart was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.; died Jan. 9, 2008 in Balad, Iraq, of wounds sustained during combat operations in Samarra, Iraq. Also killed were Pfc. Ivan E. Merlo and Pfc. Phillip J. Pannier.
Governor Honors Slain Local Soldier
LAKE VIEW TERRACE (CBS) ― The governor's office announced that Capitol flags were flown at half-staff Friday in honor of a 22-year-old soldier from Lake View Terrace who died of injuries sustained in combat in Iraq.
Sgt. David Hart died Tuesday in Balad as a result of wounds sustained during combat operations in Samarra.
His loss "is deeply felt by the community of Lake View Terrace and all Californians," Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said.
Calling Hart "a brave soldier and a true hero," the governor said the serviceman's "legacy of service and dedication to our country will be proudly remembered by all who knew him."
Hart was assigned to the Army's 2nd Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), based at Fort Campbell, Ky.
Army Sgt. David J. Hart was killed in action on 1/9/08.
