Army Sgt. Christopher A. Sanders, 22, of Roswell, N.M.
Sgt. Sanders was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Vilseck, Germany.; died Jan. 9, 2008 in Sinsil, Iraq, of wounds sustained when an improvised explosive device detonated during combat operations. Also killed were Spc. Todd E. Davis, Staff Sgt. Jonathan K. Dozier, Staff Sgt. Sean M. Gaul, Sgt. Zachary W. McBride and Sgt. 1st Class Matthew I. Pionk.
KVIA -- ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) - A soldier from southeastern New Mexico who was killed while serving in Iraq is being remembered as a wonderful father and a patriot.
Family members of Army Sergeant Christopher Sanders of Roswell were notified by the U.S. Department of Defense that the 22-year-old died Wednesday night.
They say he was killed by an improvised explosive device.
The Defense Department said today that Sanders was 1 of 6 soldiers who died in the attack in Sinsil, Iraq.
The group was assigned to the 3rd Squadron, 2nd Stryker Cavalry Regiment, 1st Armored Division out of Vilseck, Germany.
Sanders was on his second tour, and he was scheduled to return home in November.
Sanders leaves behind his wife, Dara, and a young son and daughter.
Army Sgt. Christopher A. Sanders was killed in action on 1/9/08.
